Hanna Somatics is a method of neuromuscular education that emphasizes sensory awareness. Through gentle movements, Somatics helps to reset the resting length of chronically contracted muscles. Somatics improves range of motion and can help relieve chronic pain, and is effective for people of all fitness levels.
I am pleased to be offering a variety of modalities to assist with pain reduction and functional movement. This includes hands-on Hanna Somatics private sessions, Fascia Release drop-in weekly classes and Relaxation/Anxiety Reduction techniques. |
TESTIMONIALS:
Over the last ten years I’ve worked with a series of traditional physical therapists to address chronic pain and postural imbalances. The latter were a result of years of competitive cycling along with two accidents resulting in a cracked vertebra and a fractured hip. Frankly, as an active adult in their late fifties I was frustrated that my body seemed to have forgotten how to move smoothly and naturally, and every walk, bike ride, and round of golf resulted in discomfort and pain the next day.
The improvements I’ve experienced as a result of working with Kimmer for the last three months are greater than all the other physical therapists combined. My chronic pain has subsided and my flexibility and balance are greatly improved. The "movement coaching” that Kimmer focuses on has allowed me to feel more balanced standing and sitting, and my walking gait feels smoother and more natural. I am able to play a game of pickle ball or work out and not feel crippled the next day.
I highly recommend Kimmer to anyone dealing with similar challenges.

"I have worked with many people in the field of body work over the years. Seldom do I find the right modality and the right person whom I value enough and trust enough to actual make a difference. Kimmer is sensitive to the needs of each client, knows her material thoroughly, and brings a quality of calmness and assurance to her work. Each time I work with her I leave feeling light-hearted, back in my body and am able to move with fluidity and ease. I am more aware of where I need loosening and where I need stability. I also leave with exercises that keep me flexible and strong. I recommend Kimmer to everyone with whom I work."

After a hockey-game incident, I suffered from an impinged tendon and rotator cuff injury and had to go through surgery. The post-surgery rehabilitation was complicated and time consuming and after ten month of rehabilitation it still was very difficult to perform tasks that required repetitive shoulder motions. In fact and as an example, I couldn't lift the impacted arm up over my head (for over 4 years). Kimmer Morris at Island Somatics introduced me to somatics as a rehabilitation option and already after the first treatment session my shoulder stiffness and associated pain disappeared, and I was once again able to move my arm up over my head. I am so grateful that I don’t have to live with shoulder stiffness and pain any longer and I strongly recommend Island Somatics/Kimmer Morris as a very professional, competent and reliable rehabilitation option even in situations like mine were a traditional orthopedist treatment program more or less failed to fully rehabilitate my condition.

As a bodyworker and healer Kimmer is inspired and exceptional. She has helped me with everything from migraines, to jaw tension after dental work, to my recovery from foot surgery. Her whole body approach, and ability to train me in new movement patterns, has also improved my recovery from various shoulder and back injuries. I trust her experience, her deep knowledge, and her creativity with the body, will allow me to continue to dance into the future.

"I have known Kimmer Morris in many different relationships over the years. First she came to me as a client and when a friendship developed we evolved together as two people who were deeply committed to the astonishing ability of the body to self heal given the correct input. We both shared a love of learning. Kimmer’s skill in the use the principles of Hanna Somatic Education and her creative mind coupled with her ability to learn and embody these understandings within her own system inspired me to encourage her to become a trainer. As she went through her training, I watched her grow as her mentor. Now as she completes her formal training for certification and after I felt her work in my own body as I recovered from an accident, I see her as a mature self-confident practitioner of the Hanna Somatics approach to an “out-of-sorts” body and most of all as one who is deeply committed to enhancing the lives of her clients by instilling the joy and skills for self healing.
Today our relationship is one of collaborators and co-trainers offering group classes. In this way we learn from one another new and creative ways to help our clients and the people who happen to be attracted to our class offerings which are able to reach a wider community. I highly recommend you find time to meet and work with this amazing woman."
